STEM NYC Designs the Florals for MEW New York's 2010 Spring/Summer Collection Fashion Show
The S/S 2010 MEW Collection celebrates the frill and charm of girlish memories
and translates it into clothing for a woman who wants to be fanciful as well as
sophisticated. The collection is inspired by the trinkets and treasure boxes you
kept and collected as a little girl. We incorporated all of those little tresures throughout our floral pieces we created for MEW. Check out the photos!
Mew invites us to remember how it was to adorn yourself with jewels,
flowers and bright colors and to bring these things back into your life with their
new collection. MEW New York S/S 2010 is celebration of nostalgia, blossoming
optimism, bold charm and rebirth. www.mewjapan.com

What services do you offer?
We provide floral design for all of your wedding day needs, such as bridal party bouquets and boutonnieres, ceremony and reception floral décor, and we also provide linens and other rentals that you may require for your wedding day.
We offer other wedding specialties too, such as favors, donation scrolls, which are big now in lieu of favors, table cards, place cards, and my favorite, custom specialty wedding card boxes. These boxes are tailored to match your wedding décor and are shaped as a wedding cake; it’s a beautiful keepsake.
What flowers are “hot” for this season?
Now that we are headed into the summer months, we have had a lot of requests for Peonies, and French and Parrot Tulips as well. Last month in the midst of spring flowering branches were very popular and look so lush and romantic for a wedding.
What is the latest “trend” in bouquets, centerpieces, etc?
A lot of the brides that I have been designing for lately have been aiming to produce that wow factor for their reception décor adding lots of detail along with the flowers from ribbons and crystals to glamorous vases but are staying classic with their personal bridal bouquet. I have been doing a lot of lush and bountiful tied handhelds with lots of detail in the hand tying part. A lot bride’s request to have a special piece of jewelry from a family member tied to their bouquet that holds special meaning to them. Its also been nice to see brides giving the honored women in their lives such as mom and grandmas small hand held bouquets to carry on the day of the wedding instead of traditional corsages. It’s a hit; mom and grandma feel so special that they can carry a bouquet too! To help keep my brides and grooms on budget I’ve been suggesting for the reception flowers to go half tall and half low on the centerpieces. This is a great alternative instead of having all tall centerpieces, because you are still able to get that wow factor without breaking your budget.
What should a bride and groom look for when ordering their flowers?
I really believe the most important thing a bride and groom should look for in regard to their flowers is a florist that they connect with and who understands what type of colors, textures and atmosphere they are looking to capture the day of their wedding.
How far in advance should bouquets be ordered? How about centerpieces etc.?
Centerpieces really should be ordered 6 months prior to the wedding day. However, in my experience there are certainly cases when brides do change their minds throughout their planning, so no later than 3 months is best. Bouquets can really be ordered at the latest a month before, but if we need to import special flowers earlier is always better!
Can a bride get blooms even if they are out of season?
We do our very best to get out of season blooms if a bride has her heart set on it but it certainly depends on the type of bloom. We are usually able to find a comparable flower that makes the bride just as happy.
Which flowers hold up the best for bouquets and boutonnières?
For bouquets I am fan of the durability of calla lilies, orchids, peonies, certain breeds of roses and tulips, and hydrangea are pretty hearty too.
What options do those with allergies have?
There are a lot more options today for people with allergies. Most flowers now a days are bred with no fragrance. However, flowers such as star gazer and asiatic lilies give off a strong fragrance, so it would be best to steer clear of those for allergy sufferers
